Uber Elevate partner Bell unveiled its first flying taxi model, the Bell Nexus, at the Consumer Electronics Show this month. The Bell Nexus is designed to carry four passengers as part of Uber's air taxi service, UberAir, which is slated to start operating in 2023. However, Bell VP of Innovation Scott Drennan tells TechCrunch 2025 is probably the earliest we'll see a Bell flying taxi in the skies.

BellNexus is the centerpiece of Bell’s on-demand mobility philosophy that is moving people to things from one point to another. BellNexus has features like:

Features of BellNexus

It has a hybrid electric system that proposes through air. There are six tilting ducted fans that provide for better noise performance and power performance. The interior is aesthetic.

Speed and Range

We are also looking forward to having a partnership with Uber in 2023. Autonomous Pod Transport, it’s a tall sitting biplane that can carry 20 pounds in the smaller version. There is a family of vehicles that can carry anywhere from 20 pounds up to a thousand pounds. The main target of speed with this vehicle is 150 miles per hour. The range target is 150 miles.

Hybrid Electric System

The system is hybrid electric, where the gasoline will make electricity and distribute it to fans. In the future, we can expect full-electric versions that would require different ranges and a full time charge.

Autonomous vehicle

Nexus comes with a four plus one configuration. The disintegrated plus one here means the pilot. This will be converted to an autonomous pilot in the near future.
