The need for producing more food and crop has grown with the increase in population. Millions of year ago, each family used to grow their own food on a small scaled area. It was easy to look after the area. With time acres of land was subjected to farming and agriculture emerged as a new industry. To ensure the quality and quantity of crop robotic farming could be very beneficial.

What are Farm-bots?

Farm robots as the name indicates are robots that are used or are helpful in the sector of farming. These bots are specially designed to monitor various aspects in the harvest of the crop such as growth rates, nutrient uptake, growth status etc.

The Harvester

These robots have the ability to detect ripe food and to harvest them. They have a hand like grips that allow them to serve the purpose. Scientists are making efforts in making the grips softer to avoid the bruising and injury of the delicate fruits. If utilized in the field, these bots will help decrease the harvest cost as well as the tiresome labor of non-robotic harvest. Moreover, they are a lot faster than humans.

Robotic weed killers

These robots detect the growing weeds in the agricultural land and dispense the chemical directly on them. It saves 90% of the chemicals as compared to the conventional spraying methods. In conventional methods, the whole crop is sprayed which increases the amount of residue on the crop. This residue is harmful to health and also affects the quality of the crop. The weeds can also be killed or zapped by the use of lasers.

Soil Samplers

These robots are auto equipped with the programs that can take samples for the various parts of the fields and analyze its contents such as minerals and water. This allows the farmers to add fertilizers in a controlled amount. This innovation will decrease the process of leeching- run off of chemicals into the water supply. Furthermore, the soil will get only the amount of fertilizer it actually needs.

Drone-Assisted Monitoring

These flying robots allow the farmer to gain data about the crop over a larger surface area. The sensors are able to detect the growth rate and the right timing for the harvest. They also provide with the infrared images that differentiate between the growth rates. This allows the farmer to get a hold large amount of data in a relatively short period of time.
